Vaughan French Immersion Schools: What Buyers Should Know in 2026

French Immersion is one of the most common program questions Cecilia Guo, REALTOR®, hears from buyers exploring Vaughan real estate. Both school boards offer it, but the structure, locations, and registration rules are different. Here is a clear overview.

York Region District School Board French Immersion in Vaughan

YRDSB French Immersion begins in Grade 1. Grades 1 to 3 are taught entirely in French, and from Grade 4 the day is split evenly between French and English. There is no Extended French option, so the choice is Core French or full Immersion. Vaughan elementary schools that host the program include:

  • Lorna Jackson Public School (Woodbridge)
  • Louis-Honoré Fréchette Public School
  • Pierre Berton Public School (Vellore Village)
  • Roméo Dallaire Public School
  • Ventura Park Public School (Thornhill)
  • Viola Desmond Public School
  • Yorkhill Elementary School (Thornhill)

Registration for the 2026-27 year ran from January 16 to February 9, 2026, and the board notes it is not first-come, first-served. Cecilia Guo recommends checking the YRDSB School Locator for the designated Immersion site for any address.

York Catholic District School Board French Immersion

YCDSB Immersion also starts in Grade 1 and runs through Grade 12. Instruction is 85 percent French in Grades 1 to 3, then 50 percent in Grades 4 to 8. Cecilia Guo has found the higher early-years intensity is a deciding factor for some buyers.

The Real Estate Angle

Immersion schools draw from wider attendance areas than regular schools, and students may move sites between grades. Cecilia Guo helps buyers confirm both the home school and the Immersion school before committing to homes for sale in Vaughan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to speak French at home?

No. Both boards design Immersion for households where French is not spoken.

Does French Immersion continue in high school?

Yes. YRDSB requires at least 10 Immersion credits for the certificate. Cecilia Guo Realtor can identify which Vaughan high schools offer it.

Is there a bus?

Eligibility follows each board's transportation policy. In the Ontario housing market 2026, Cecilia Guo suggests confirming bus service before choosing between two streets.
