Vaughan School Rankings: What They Measure and How to Use Them

School rankings come up in almost every conversation Cecilia Guo, REALTOR®, has with buyers looking at Vaughan real estate. They are useful, but only if you understand what they measure. Here is how to read them before you shop for homes for sale in Vaughan.

Where Vaughan School Rankings Come From

The most quoted source is the Fraser Institute Report Card. Its 2025 edition, released in January 2026, ranked 3,052 Ontario elementary schools on nine indicators drawn from EQAO Grade 3 and Grade 6 results in reading, writing, and math. A separate report covers 747 secondary schools using Grade 9 math and the Grade 10 literacy test.

What the Score Does and Does Not Tell You

A score out of 10 reflects standardized test performance for one school year. It does not measure teaching quality, specialty programs, or how a school supports individual students. Cecilia Guo encourages buyers to look at the five-year trend, not just a single year, because small schools can swing several points from one cohort to the next.

Public, Catholic, and Independent Schools Are Ranked Together

Vaughan is served by the York Region District School Board and the York Catholic District School Board, and both appear in the same rankings alongside independent schools. Cecilia Guo often reminds buyers that the two boards use different attendance boundaries, so two homes on the same street can be assigned to very different schools.

How Rankings Affect Vaughan Real Estate

In the Ontario housing market 2026, homes inside a well-ranked attendance area tend to hold value and attract steady demand in Maple, Vellore Village, Kleinburg, and Thornhill Woods. That does not mean rankings should drive the whole decision. Cecilia Guo looks at the score, the boundary, the commute, and the property itself, then helps buyers weigh all four.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Fraser Institute rankings the only source?

No. EQAO publishes school-level results directly, and both York Region boards post school profiles. Cecilia Guo uses all three when reviewing a neighbourhood.

Does a top-ranked school guarantee admission?

No. Admission depends on the attendance boundary for the address, which Cecilia Guo Realtor confirms with the board before an offer is written.

How often do rankings change?

Annually. Ontario real estate 2026 buyers should check the latest edition rather than relying on a listing description.
